Michael Scott is the state librarian at the State Library of Iowa, a role he has held since November 2014.
Previously, he was the assistant director for Southeastern Libraries Cooperating, a regional public library system in Minnesota. During his 26 years in the library field, he has also served as the director of medical libraries at the University of Minnesota Medical Center and Orlando Health. He is a member of the American Library Association and the Iowa Library Association.
He received his bachelor’s degree in psychobiology from Hastings College and his Master of Arts degree in library science from the University of Missouri.
Michael is eager to bring his knowledge of libraries’ literacy and accessibility efforts to the advisory council. He wants to ensure that libraries can help Iowa children develop their reading skills as well as a love of reading so they can be lifelong readers.
