Prior to coming to work at the Iowa Reading Research Center, Jennifer was an Associate Teaching Professor in the Iowa State University School of Education for 11 years. She taught literacy methods courses related to early literacy. Prior to working at Iowa State University, Jennifer taught first grade for six years for Bloomington Public Schools in Bloomington, Minn., and worked as a kindergarten through Grade 3 math and literacy support teacher for three years in the Johnston Community School District. Jennifer has also taught at Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wis., and supervised practicum students and student teachers at Grand View University.

Jennifer earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and early childhood education from the University of Northern Iowa and a Master of Education in Teaching and Learning degree from St. Mary’s University in Minnesota.

Jennifer lives in Ankeny with her husband Paul and their teenage children Sydney and Jayden.
