Pat Hogan

Role: Private School Representative

Pat Hogan is a veteran classroom teacher. She is currently a middle school literature teacher, writing instructor and assistant principal at St. Augustin Catholic School. She has taught language arts and reading in the Diocese of Des Moines Catholic schools for 39 years. Previously, she was employed by the Des Moines Public Schools as a Title I teacher.

Hogan has a bachelor’s degree in upper elementary education from the University of Northern Iowa and a Master of Science in Education (reading specialist) and an administrative degree from Drake University. As an adjunct professor at Viterbo University, she taught classes which focused on middle school methodologies and research.

Hogan has worked closely with the Diocese of Des Moines Catholic schools, planning and leading teacher workshops, evaluating curriculum, and helping observe and mentor new teachers. This has helped her sustain an enthusiasm for her primary focus: the ever-elusive middle school student.

When not correcting student essays, Hogan enjoys birdwatching, reading, and spending time with her family members, two of whom are also English teachers.
